HEMODIALYSIS

Kerotin Injection

Levocarnitine Injection 200 mg/ml (5 ml Ampoule)

Indication

For the management of primary and secondary carnitine deficiency, as well as cardiomyopathy.

Disease

Levocarnitine is a naturally occurring compound essential for energy metabolism in mammals. Dialysis therapy may lead to a reduction in both free carnitine and plasma acylcarnitines. Recent studies have demonstrated that both oral and intravenous L-carnitine play a significant role in managing anaemia and cardiovascular disease in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Mechanism of Action

L-carnitine is essential for the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for β-oxidation. It also helps reduce the need for erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) in hemodialysis (HD) patients with renal anemia.

Dosage

Administer 10–20 mg/kg body weight as a slow bolus injection over 2–3 minutes after each dialysis session.
