Calcium Polystyrene Sulphonate Powder Sachet
Indication
Management of Hyperkalemia in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Disease
Hyperkalemia is one of the most serious complications associated with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). It is defined as a blood potassium level greater than 5.5 mmol/L. The primary causes include reduced urinary potassium excretion due to impaired kidney function, excessive dietary potassium intake, and the use of certain medications such as potassium-sparing diuretics and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. If left untreated, hyperkalemia can lead to life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias.
Mechanism of Action
Kchek, containing Calcium Polystyrene Sulfonate, is a potassium-binding resin that helps manage hyperkalemia. It works by exchanging calcium ions for potassium ions in the intestine, thereby facilitating the removal of excess potassium from the body as the resin is excreted.
