RENAL MEDICINE

Fuxastat-40

Febuxostat Film Coated Tablets 40 mg

Indication

Management of Hyperuricemia in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

Disease

Hyperuricemia refers to an elevated level of uric acid in the blood. A decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) contributes to the development of hyperuricemia, as approximately 70% of uric acid is excreted through the kidneys. When renal function declines, uric acid clearance is reduced, leading to its accumulation in the bloodstream. Hyperuricemia is typically defined as a serum uric acid level greater than 7.0 mg/dL in males and greater than 6.0 mg/dL in females.

Mechanism of Action

Fexanto, which contains Febuxostat, is a xanthine oxidase enzyme inhibitor. It works by blocking the activity of xanthine oxidase, thereby reducing the production of uric acid in the body.

Dosage

One tablet daily, or as directed by a registered medical practitioner.
